Visited By Malick Bodian

Port Tanger is proud to present the Visited by Malick Bodian collection, marking its first collaboration with Senegalese photographer, model, and friend of the brand, Malick Bodian.

A testament to cultural fusion, this new collection draws inspiration from the streets of Dakar, presenting two distinct eyewear shapes: the Bodi, boasting a classic square frame with a straight brow, and the Malick, embracing an enveloping oval silhouette.

These designs are a direct homage to the styles that have imprinted themselves upon Malick’s memory, a reflection of the timeless charm found in the streets of his homeland. In a palette reminiscent of Senegal’s rich landscapes, both styles feature essential shades of Black, Cardamom, Bunaa, and Lulua, accompanied by Amber, Tobacco, and Warm Olive lenses. An infusion of three vivid hues — green, yellow, and red — pays homage to the vibrant spirit of Senegal, where every color tells a story through «the yellow Sun, the red heart, and the endless colors of the island of Gorée.»

Malick Bodian’s vision is found within each frame, reflecting his personal style and influences, such as the sartorial choices of older Senegalese men, with their attire reminiscent of a bygone era, marked by distinctive colors and timeless elegance.

«With my eyes on the past, I see references and inspiration; in the present, I see creation and diversity; and in the future, I hope to see unification.» — Malick Bodian.

Malick Bodian, a model and photographer hailing from Senegal, embarked on his artistic journey at an early age. Moving to Europe at 13, he was scouted in Corsica at 19, catapulting him into the world of fashion. Since his runway debut in 2018, Bodian’s career has flourished. Transitioning behind the lens, he began experimenting with photography, capturing self-portraits and documenting his travels. His work has graced the pages of Vogue, GQ, Document and Perfect magazine. He’s collaborated with brands like Bottega Veneta, Chanel and Wales Bonner, drawing inspiration from the captivating imagery of 1970s West African studio portraiture.
